CSSC Huahai Held Seminar on Optimized Anchorage Hold Preparation for 80,000 DWT General Dry Cargo Vessel
Recently, the Technical Seminar on Anchorage Hold Preparation for 80,000 DWT Dry Cargo Vessel was successfully convened at CSSC Huahai Marine Co., Ltd.
Representatives from
- COSCO SHIPPING Group
- CITIC Financial Leasing
- China Classification Society (CCS)
- Dalian COSCO SHIPPING Heavy Industry Co., Ltd.
- Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.
- Xiamen Shipbuilding Industry Co., Ltd.
- CSSC Chengxi Shipyard Co., Ltd., and
- Shanghai Merchant Ship Design and Research Institute (SDARI) gathered together.
The discussions centered on the risks and key concerns regarding anchorage hold preparation, with an in-depth review of the customized technical solution developed by CSSC Huahai for this series of vessels. The meeting unanimously recognized the feasibility of the technical solution while also providing valuable suggestions for improvement.
The 80,000 DWT project is equipped with 7 cargo holds. Holds 1-6 utilize piggy-back hatch covers, with single panels weighing up to 220 tons, while Hold 7 employs folding-type hatch cover. As the vessel must perform tasks like opening, cleaning and drying the holds at anchorage, the safe opening and securing of these massive hatch covers become critical operational challenges. At the seminar, the CSSC Huahai technical team systematically presented their comprehensive anchorage hold preparation solution. They detailed the hatch cover operating procedures, safety securing mechanisms, and emergency safeguards for various operational scenarios, ensuring comprehensive stability and safety of hatch cover operations under all anchorage conditions.
During the discussion, COSCO Shipping put forward optimization expectations regarding improving hatch opening/closing efficiency and practical operational convenience. Representatives from CCS, SDARI, and the shipyards conducted professional inquiries focusing on technical details and potential risks. Relying on detailed calculations, technical accumulation of previous ships, and sufficient preliminary research, the CSSC Huahai team responded to all questions one by one and conducted in-depth analysis of technical principles and implementation paths. After careful and in-depth discussions, all parties spoke highly of the solution.
The technical person in charge from CSSC Huahai stated that the seminar provided invaluable insights for optimizing the technical solution. The company will promptly consolidate the feedback received, drive forward solution evaluation and detailed refinement, and enhance the plan with greater responsiveness and higher technical precision to fully meet the shipowner’s operational requirements. CSSC Huahai remains committed to safeguarding vessel safety and efficiency with its professional services.
As a leader in hatch cover design and supply, CSSC Huahai has been dedicated to this field for four decades. Since year 2018, the company has provided hatch cover design and supplies for various similar vessel types including 62,000DWT, 68,000DWT, 77,000DWT, 82,120DWT, 82,300DWT, and 84,500DWT types for both domestic and overseas shipowners. All these designs feature a combination of folding and piggy-back hatch covers.
Notably, the single piggy-back panel for the 84,500DWT general dry cargo vessel weighs 280 tons, currently the world’s largest and heaviest single panel. Moving forward, CSSC Huahai will steadfastly uphold its mission of „More Reliable, More Efficient“, adhering to the philosophy of „Continuous Minor Improvements, Sustained Micro-Innovations“. We will relentlessly optimize designs to provide shipowners with superior solutions.
